National Taiwan University is the prestigious flagship university of Taiwan.

NTU has 11 colleges, 54 departments,107 graduate institutes, and eight master's and PhD programs, which range from the natural sciences to the humanities, society, and the arts. A privileged location

NTU's main location is a large garden-campus in the center of Taipei, and is easily accessible by public transport.

The largest library in Taiwan

The NTU Library contains four million volumes.

Sports facilities

A large part of the campus is devoted to exercise and health, including the New Sports Center opened in 2002, the Old Stadium and various outdoor tennis courts and playing fields.

An e-University

NTU offers wide computing availability on campus and provides webmail portals, multiple networking services, computer courses, distance learning services, cloud computing for storage, software share and mobile devices, such as the MyNTU portal, NTU Space, NTU AppShare, NTU SoftBank and iNTU.

What to study

NTU provides many opportunities to develop your potential alongside some of Taiwan's best students and faculty, within an exciting and supportive environment. Around 800 courses are taught in English. Students are able to undertake the most extensive range of academic programs in Taiwan. No matter what subject you are interested in, there is likely to be a significant number of high-quality courses and programs for you.

Each semester, we welcome international students in the following categories. Each student category has its own application route. Generally speaking, there are categories of international students at NTU:

Degree Student

This is a student who

  • possesses a nationality other than Taiwan and
  • pursues a Bachelor, Master or Doctoral degree at NTU.

Depending on your family background, you may be considered an Overseas Chinese Degree Student. Overseas Chinese students follow a special application route. Please refer to the University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Student or contact NTU's Office of Chinese Overseas Students for admission details or if you are unsure.

Dual / Joint Degree Student

This is a student who

  • is from an institution that has a dual degree program agreement with NTU,
  • is nominated by his/her home institution, and
  • pursues a Bachelor, Master or Doctoral degree at NTU.
Exchange Student

This is a student who

  • is from an institution that has a student exchange program agreement with NTU,
  • is nominated by his/her home institution, and
  • undertakes one semester or one academic year of study at NTU.
Visiting Student

This is a fee-paying program that student who

  • register as non-degree-seeking but full-time students at NTU.
  • is from NTU Partner Institutions
  • undertakes one semester or one academic year of study at NTU, and is required to take at least 2 courses / 4 credits per semester. 

In addition to these four options for international students at NTU, NTU also offers summer programs and Chinese courses for international students:

Summer programs

A series of credit-awarding summer sessions are available. They combine a rich academic program with first-hand experience of East Asian culture and opportunities to make friends from all over the world.

Learning Chinese

NTU's Chinese language courses are among the world's most popular. You can decide to learn only Chinese, or you may take Chinese courses in addition to any other academic program of your choice. Every international student has access to a wide range of levels available. Certain programs are offered free of charge to international students registered at NTU.
